DORSET County Council leader Spencer Flower thinks the axing of local bus services will ‘empower local groups to work together’.

West Dorset District Council thinks less public toilet facilities in Bridport are ‘an improvement’.

The same council thought creating dangerous roads layouts and traffic jams at West Bay a good idea too.

So we are now expected to provide our own public transport, our own public toilets – if the town council manages to acquire them by whatever means – by getting pubs and restaurants to allow the general public to use their already stretched facilities.

We are getting less and less from our various councils and no reduction in council tax to reflect this.

In the meantime various civic functions continue unabated. Is it really necessary to invite all the other mayors and their escorts/consorts in West Dorset to a ‘jolly’?

There were representatives from 19 different councils at the recent Civic Day in Bridport all presumably travelling, eating and drinking at our expense. I happily stand corrected on that last assertion if someone can prove otherwise.

If you multiply that expense by say 19, assuming they all do this sort of thing, then quite a lot of money is involved. Maybe I venture to suggest, enough to provide and maintain a set of public toilets in East Street.

As to the ‘victory’ about the pinch point at West Bay, do not to fall for this sucker punch by WDDC.

There's still the issue of the priority of the road route a few yards up from Haddon House. WDDC has already announced that any change will ‘cost money’.

More expense on a scheme that should ever have been spent in the first place. There’s no need to go in for new design work, just put the road back as it was before.

I can’t help feeling that John Morey may be right when he said we should consider getting rid of WDDC.
