RE the police recommending people to ‘remove all valuables from their vehicles’, when visiting beauty spots in the area.
In an age where camera technology is so advanced that even paying for parking tickets can be monitored, why can’t some sort of remote surveillance equipment be installed at regularly targeted isolated car parks?
If discreet temporary cameras were installed (either battery powered, or mains supplied) then it would be a relatively simple piece of detection work to identify number plates of suspicious vehicles, or obtain actual footage of perpetrators caught in the act, until these anti-social people are apprehended.
Why should motorists be required to put the contents of their vehicles into a rucksack before considering enjoying a country stroll?
A broken car window is expensive even if nothing else is taken from a vehicle.
Such anti-social behaviour, along with not clearing up after a pet dog, is ruining one of the most enjoyable aspects of living in the area, and it shouldn’t be viewed as a motorist’s problem.
There are probably a very small amount of individuals who target unattended vehicles. It no doubt feeds into other areas of criminal behaviour.
The police should make this a high priority and stamp it out by doing something about it practically, not seek to pass the buck on to people trying to enjoy their leisure time.
