I WOULD like to add my objection to West Dorset District Council selling off the public toilets situated in the East Street car park.
I consider this decision to be a grave travesty of justice.
These facilities are surely funded out of monies paid by each and every person paying council taxes and obviously car parking charges, especially the latter otherwise why do we pay to leave our vehicles in such areas.
Another important fact is that when visitors to the car park arrive from a distance away, the need to use the toilet is often an urgent matter.
Therefore, they should not be expected to walk in excess of two or three hundred metres to find such a facility. Perhaps the proposed sale of this building is a means of funding the numerous mistakes the district council has made over the last few years. Its huge new offices constructed on much-needed car parking spaces in our county town being the most outstanding.
Furthermore, if our councils are that hard up I feel sure the public would not object to paying a small fee to use the service.
Perhaps five pence for instance. It is certainly not fair on the local public houses or cafes to provide the use of their toilets for general use, which is happening now.
