I would just like to voice the disappointment of hundreds of guitarists and spectators alike who missed Guitars on the Beach (GOTB).
The event took place half an hour earlier than advertised because of the rain – ironically, at 5pm when it was due to begin, the sun shone down. We were told that the television production company wanted to start early to prevent water damage to their equipment.
If so then who was the event for? The thousands of people who had given up time and money to support local charities or the people being filmed on stage?
For my part I had never played guitar before and painstakingly learned those three chords over several months. We then drove 150 miles to be part of the band. Over 2,000 people registered on Saturday morning to take part – I’d love to know how many were able to perform.
