With reference to the suggestion that the new waste depot be sited at Stoney Head, may I point out the following pitfalls this course of action would invoke. The entrance to the site would be straightforward, while the exit would be highly dangerous and problematic.

Drivers wishing to return west towards Bridport would have three options. Firstly, they could get on to the A35. This junction is notoriously difficult and dangerous due to the heavy, fast-moving traffic at 60 to 80 mph, which approaches down a bend with little visual warning of the junction ahead. This route would soon be avoided by drivers leaving the site.

The second option would be to follow the small country lanes through Shipton Gorge and Burton Bradstock with few passing points, sharp corners, and narrow lanes without footpaths.

The third option would be to take a route through Uploders, Yandover, Loders and Bradpole. This would again be very difficult. This way has notorious winding lanes, sharp bends, two narrow stone bridges, and a railway bridge, all without footways. There is also a school with cars blocking the road at pick-up time, and on occasion cattle slowly walking down the roads.

This is a recipe for dangerous vehicular madness.
