There is a simple solution to the traffic problems in Broad Street, Lyme Regis.
The street is not wide enough for coaches, buses and delivery lorries, and I am wondering why the local bus service could not be put to better use. Buses from Bridport could drop off at Charmouth roundabout and be met by the local bus, and the same could happen at Hunters Lodge, to bring people into Lyme. Our local bus would be put to better use, perhaps even a second bus providing employment for another person. The main buses could then continue along the A35 to/from Axminster. Coaches should be banned from dropping people off in the square and should only be allowed to drop off in Holmbush or Charmouth Road car parks. In high summer the park and ride buses could take the people from the coaches into the town or to the Cobb.
Another problem is the bus stop outside the post office, why was it ever moved to the narrower part of the street from further up opposite the cinema? This was a far more sensible place for the bus stop, the pavement is also wider at this point whereas outside the post office it is often difficult to pass on foot when there are a lot of people waiting for the bus.
It would take some organisation, but then maybe it would solve some of the problems of this very busy street.
