There is a lot of talk from the government trying to encourage more cycling by giving extra money to the cities for cycle paths etc.
I feel more should be done to prosecute those who break the law with no lights at night, ignoring one-way streets and traffic lights.
As all pedestrians will have observed, cycling on the pavements is common even when the road is clear.
Not only is this practice breaking the law but it also a severe hazard to others.
Come on Dorset Police, summons some of these law breakers and perhaps others will think twice.
Unfortunately the money from the fines does not go to the police as a portion should.
The penalty for riding on the pavement can be up to £500 and for careless cycling up to £1,000.
It might be a good idea to produce an abridged version of the Highway Code as it applies to cyclists, and give a copy with every new cycle bought, Ignorance is not an excuse in law.
