There is a general feeling that the person who designed the West Bay mess had never been to West Bay – has the same occurred with on street parking in Bridport?
The Dorset County Council traffic manager says the proposed changes will discourage motorists from driving into the town centre.

Nobody parks all day; if they do the traffic wardens are slow off the mark.
He says these plans will reduce ‘dangerous manoeuvres to find on street parking’.
It seems to me all the traffic manager says, to support the charging plans is rubbish.
To compare Bridport with Swanage is not a similar situation and who measured the ‘success’? County Hall coffers?
If Dorset County Council wants compensation on market days, what happens when the north end of South Street is used for an event?
What would happen if the street was permanently shut and pedestrianised? Would Bridport Town Council have to send an annual cheque to those public servants in Dorchester?
