IN your article, ‘Bid to scrap free parking’ I have never heard so much rubbish as in your quote from Matthew Piles, the Dorset County Council traffic manager.
He says that the intention is to promote economic growth in towns, (drive away I would say) and to make town centres safer, more attractive and generally nicer to visit.
We must live in another world.
It doesn’t look nicer in Dorchester.
How can it be safer for you still have to park your car?
More attractive, I don’t think so, what with parking meters all along the pavement and how much will that cost?
All it is to make you pay, pay, pay. They did try that somewhere in Devon and it got thrown out, after the meters were bought too.
Come on you shopkeepers and councillors tell them where to put the meters.
