Uplyme FC 3
Upottery Reserves 0
Uplyme beat Upottery Reserves 3-0 at Venlake to make it four league wins in a row, taking them up to fourth place in Division Four of the Devon and Exeter League, writes John Davis.
Although the visitors came on the back of a strong win, the Swallows caused them problems right from the start.
Uplyme took the lead with a well struck free kick from Fin McLean, and James Souter soon doubled the lead after clever play from Marcus Symonds.
The home side continued to move the ball well up the slope in the second half, and were rewarded with a third goal from Josh Frewin after Alex Jones had jinked his way past two defenders.
Uplyme’s clean sheet was a strong reflection of the performance of goalkeeper Ollie Gunstone and the whole of the back four.
“Even missing some key midfielders, we looked strong,” manager Steve Gillan said. “Conor Newns and Rikky Toyer were sturdy at centre back and Fin McLean through the middle controlled the tempo.”
“Alex Jones is having a solid season up front and it is really good to have James Souter back playing,” added Gillan who also said the club is on the look-out for a goalkeeper.
This Saturday (October 23) Uplyme make the trip to Hemyock. Kick off is at 2.15 pm.
