Lyme Regis’ improving form continued as they picked up another valuable point in the Devon and Exeter League Premier Division with a 1-1 draw at Upottery, writes John Davis.

The Seasiders, who had to reshuffle the pack because of injuries, started brightly and crafted out a number of early chances.

Adzy Whitehouse was denied by the goalkeeper twice. Mike Calverly also went close and Cam Fowler had a shot cleared off the line.

At the other end, Lyme goalkeeper Will Meech was also kept busy collecting a number of high crosses, whilst also marshalling his back line when required.

Lyme took the lead on 30 minutes when a corner from Calverly was bundled in by Jacob Parsons. It was his first goal for the club.

Upottery started the second half brightly, but Lyme always looked dangerous on the break and a well-struck half volley from Whitehouse was again saved.

Meech came to the visitors’ rescue after a mix up at the back before Upottery levelled the scores in stoppage time with a headed goal from the corner.

After the game, manager Stef Taylor said: “It was another performance which I can’t fault. Upottery are a good side and we matched them again and deserved the three points.”

“We were defensively solid, the midfield added energy and we are creating good chances. Now we just need to finish them off.”

Will Meech was named Man of the Match, but Taylor also singled out Jacob Parsons for another superb display in midfield.

There was also a good performance from Lyme Regis Reserves in Division Four, who picked up their first win of the season beating Starcross Dons with a Steve Batey hat trick and a first goal from Bogdan Tudor.

On Saturday (October 23), The Seasiders are home to fellow strugglers Wellington Reserves at the Davey Fort with a 2.15 pm kick off.
