Lyme Regis picked up their second league point of the season after a tight 1-1 Devon and Exeter League Premier Division match against University of Exeter Seconds at Davey Fort.

With a few injuries in the squad, skipper Tyler Allen went to the centre of defence, Adzy Whitehouse switched to midfield and Jacob Parsons came in for his full home debut.

The students tried to play out from the back but Lyme’s high press often caught them out with Whitehouse, Parsons, Josh Daines and Josh Rawlins creating several half chances for The Seasiders.

The visitors opened the scoring when goalkeeper Will Meech failed to gather a high cross cleanly and the loose ball was scrambled in.

Before the break Rawlins hit the post at the other end and Whitehouse had a header blocked on the line by one of his own players.

Several changes were made for the second half and Parsons thought he had equalised for the home side only to have his effort ruled out for offside.

The university side looked to hit Lyme on the counter-attack but the home defence held firm and were well marshalled by Craig Every who went on to be awarded Man of the Match.

The equaliser came from a free kick. Dead ball expert Allen hit the crossbar with his effort from distance and Daines won the race to head the loose ball into the net.

The visitors had several shots off target as they went for the winner while Lyme almost snatched a decider themselves when Orrin Newberry glanced a header just wide of the post.

Lyme manager Stefan Taylor told the News, “It’s another step in the right direction. I’d say we deserved all three points but I’m chuffed with the one. All the boys were superb-work-rate, attitude, desire and commitment.”

Next for Lyme Regis is a trip to Upottery on Saturday at 2.15 pm.
