Lyme Regis gave a good account of themselves before going down 3-0 to higher league opposition Hamworthy Recreation Reserves in the Devon Premier Cup.

The Seasiders were disciplined and kept their shape well in the opening stages with the pace of Josh Rawlins and Josh Daines causing problems in the visitors’ defence.

Some re-organisation was needed when Sam Waddon went off injured in the 15th minute but Kingsley Wellman reverted to central defence with young Matthew Reed also showing up well on his home debut at full back.

Dan Reeks opened the scoring for the visitors just before half time and early in the second period, Lyme introduced Jacob Parsons and Mike Calverley to provide added impetus.

Noah Burgess got a second goal for Hamworthy after his first effort had been blocked and they were able to see out of the game comfortably when they netted a third through Matt Kerse with five minutes left.

This Saturday Lyme Regis are back in Premier Division action with the University of Exeter Seconds the visitors to Davey Fort. Kick off is at 2.15 p.m.
