After a week without a match, Lyme Regis made the trip to the University of Exeter Seconds in the Premier Division of the Devon and Exeter League where they were beaten 3-0.
Lyme took a while to adjust to the size of the pitch but they soon started to use the space well, keeping the ball and setting up moves that probed the students’ defence.
Errors led to the University’s first goal and the home side added a second before the break despite some stubborn defending and point-blank saves from Will Meech.
Positional readjustments were made at half time and several substitutions also gave Lyme’s game more impetus but despite a string of attacks and good chances created they were unable to make the breakthrough needed.
Late in the game a quick counter-attack led to the University securing their third goal
Manager Stefan Taylor told the News: “This is the best we have achieved this season. There was more quality in the work and a desire to win the goal back.”
“We saw a much better Lyme team and a win is not far away. It was a good performance from everyone and we were unlucky not to get a goal or two.”
The Man of the Match Award went to Orrin Newbury for his strength and ball winning in midfield.
This Saturday (October 12) Lyme Regis are on their travels again when they visit Feniton.
