Lyme Regis 3
Clyst Valley 3
A long-range free kick in stoppage time from skipper Ty Allen earned the Seasiders a deserved point and lifted them away from the bottom of the table.
For the first twenty-five minutes Lyme were the better side and they took the lead when a Sam Merigaux pass found Mike Calverley and his shot found the corner of the net.
The visitors equalised when a free kick outside the box hit the defensive wall and looped over Will Meech and then they turned the screw to add two more goals before the break.
With Craig Every dominating in midfield the home side were right back in the game and their efforts were rewarded when a Cody Bowditch corner was scrambled in at the back post by Kingsley Wellman.
Whitehouse had a penalty kick saved after he had been brought down in the box and Calverley fired over from a good position.
Then, with time running out, Orrin Newberry was fouled 30 metres out and up stepped Allen to expertly place the ball away from the Clyst goalkeeper’s reach.
“The fight, passion and determination in the second half from everyone was next level,” Lyme manager, Stefan Taylor, told the News. “Another ten minutes and I think we would have won the game.”
“We must now push on from here knowing we can compete in this league. We’ve set our standard now,” he added.
This Saturday, the Seasiders play a quick return fixture against Clyst Valley before travelling to Winkleigh on Saturday, September 21.
