Devon and Exeter League Premier Division
Lapford 3
Leach 29, Stapleton 38, Burrow 69
Lyme Regis 0
Lyme’s new look squad made a disappointing start to their Premier Division campaign with a 3-0 defeat at former champions Lapford.
The home side led 2-0 at half time through goals from Harrison Lynch and Dominic Stapleton within the space of nine minutes. A third was added in the second half when Chris Burrow's strike was on target.
Lyme had their chances when Adzy Whitehouse and Mika Mamanta tested the home goalkeeper in the first period and there were also good performances from Will Meech and midfielder Craig Every.
Speaking to the News, Lyme manager Stefan Taylor said: “At times when we got the ball down, we played some really nice football. We looked dangerous on the counter attack too but were guilty at times of over playing the ball.”
“We probably need to be stronger in the middle of the park winning first and second balls. On the whole though despite the score line it was a positive performance which is encouraging against a top footballing side.”
Dave Bridges, Sam Merigaux and skipper Ty Allen all have knocks and are doubtful for the home game at Davey Fort against Sidmouth this Saturday.
Orrin Newbery is expected to come in though to make his debut in midfield and there may be other signings before the game.
Lyme Regis Reserves kick off their season in Division Four with an away game against St. Martins.
