BUDLEIGH SALTERTON II 234-9 (8pts) lost to UPLYME & LYME REGIS 301-6 (19pts) by 67 runs
A fine century from wicketkeeper/batter Alfie Jaques was the cornerstone of Uplyme’s comfortable win in this high-scoring Devon League C Division East match.
Jaques’ 102, made in tandem with several willing partners, was struck off 121 balls and included 15 fours.
Put into bat, Uplyme were 48 for 2 early on but recovered well to pick up maximum batting points before eventually topping the three hundred mark.
Other notable contributors to the total were skipper Sam Farrow who made his 69 at almost a run a ball, Joe Elsworth (36) and Preston Hilless, Mark Batey and Steve Batey who all scored 22.
With the home side chasing a high total, Uplyme were able to utilise a number of bowlers.
Lee Russell (68) did carry the fight for Budleigh for much of the innings but when he was caught by Jaques off the bowling of Andrew Harrison and Daniel Messom (31) also departed the end was in sight.
Only some dogged defending at the end prevented Uplyme from picking up a maximum twenty points haul.
Pick of the visiting bowlers were Elsworth (2-36), Harrison (2-39) and Farrow (2-52).
Visitors to the King George V Playing Field this Saturday, 1.00 p.m. start, are top of the table Braunton.
