Uplyme & Lyme Regis 191 (6pts) lost to Ottery St Mary (20pts) 192-4 by six wickets.
AN undefeated innings of 65 from opener Alex Clements made the major difference between the two sides as Ottery comfortably completed a Devon League C Division East double over Uplyme.
Put into bat by the visitors the home side were given a solid start by openers Alfie Jacques (28) and Preston Hilless (14) and another fluent half century from Joe Elsworth (54) showed promise of a challenging total of over 200 and maximum batting points.
But although Daniel Magee (42) took over from Elsworth to anchor the innings, no-one was able to stay with him as a series of needless wayward shots from subsequent batters saw the score slump from 141 for three to 191 all out.
Ottery’s Sam Rose did most of the damage, taking three for 20 off only five overs and Rhys Norman weighed in with 3-47 from his maximum nine over spell.
Despite rotating their bowling attack, Uplyme were unable to dislodge Ottery’s opening pair, Clements and Sam O’Nyons who quickly took the score past 80 before the first wicket fell.
O’Nyons was finally out for 44 off 54 balls while Clements, despite losing some partners in the middle order, continued to steadily accumulate his match winning total which included six fours.
Further useful contributions came from Harsha Liyanage (19) and Tom Jeacock (15 not out) with Magee again Uplyme’s most successful bowler with 3-37 from seven overs.
On Saturday Uplyme make the trip along the coast to face Budleigh Salterton II (1 p.m. start).
