SEATON 139-1 (18pts) beat UPLYME & LYME REGIS 138-6 (3pts) by nine wickets

UPLYME’S makeshift side were well beaten by nine wickets at home to their local rivals Seaton in Devon League C Division East.

Seaton reached the required total for the loss of only one wicket and with 25 overs to spare.

With most of the squad away attending a wedding, the home side, who were put into bat, struggled to penetrate the field and keep the total moving in the early stages and at one point were 39-3 off 26 overs.

Seaton constantly rang the changes in their bowling attack with seven different players being used during the Uplyme innings.

A patient 28 from Andrew Harrison, including three fours and two sixes, helped improve the situation and he was well supported by Max Felgate, who top scored with 36 and Dan Lyle with 23.

There was also a late flurry from Gareth Stoneman who plundered 18 not out off 11 balls.

All the Seaton bowlers finished with tidy figures, the most notable being Ben Morgan (2-10) and Adam Bilston (2-24).

Damian Baxter and Matt Hewer, opening the innings for the visitors, looked comfortable from the start and they had put on 42 before the first wicket fell.

Baxter went for 29 to the bowling of Lahiru Abeywickrama (1-17) but that was the only success that the Uplyme attack was able to achieve.

Hewer continued to get the ball away at will and he was soon to be outpaced by Tristan Wakeley who recorded his half-century before the winning run was scored.

At the close both players were undefeated, Hewer on 43 and Wakeley, whose quick fire knock of 53 came off 41 deliveries and contained seven fours and two sixes.

This weekend, Uplyme and Lyme Regis visit third-placed Exmouth Seconds.
