STURMINSTER NEWTON 6
LYME REGIS 0
LYME Regis were knocked out of the Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance Senior Trophy quarter-finals with a 6-0 defeat at reigning champions Sturminster Newton.
While the scoreline suggests a hammering, Lyme were competitive throughout and missed a plethora of chances including three one-on-ones.
The Cherries eventually made the Seasiders pay for their profligacy with six goals as the current Dorset Premier League leaders underlined why they are currently the highest-placed grassroots team in Dorset.
Lyme were unlucky to go 1-0 down thanks to an own goal but a mistake cost them dear when Buddy O’Shea controlled deftly and fired past Chris Higgs for 2-0.

And a poor start to the second half essentially sealed the win, Billy Bright heading home a set-piece and Aaron Lane-Leney jinking past several tackles to net a fourth.
More missed chances deprived Lyme of a consolation and the Cherries completed the rout with a late Elliot Bevis double.
Lyme manager Julien Simier missed the tie but returns in the dugout for the home league game with Colyton on Saturday (2.15pm).
Previewing that clash, he labelled Colyton as Lyme’s ‘black cat’ due to past bad luck against the Devon side.
He told the Bridport & Lyme Regis News: “It’s going to be another tough game because Colyton are coming back into form and they are a little bit of a black cat to us.
“We always struggle against Colyton, I don’t know why. They’re like a bogey team. There’s something about their forward line that makes us nervy and fragile.
“It’s hard to get that out of the players. We’re a bit better at home but away we always struggle.”
Joe Bond (groin) has returned to running work but misses out. Brad Rowe and Ben Turner are unavailable, as is Fred Parsons (ill).
Lyme: Higgs, Bailey, S Batey, Beer, Fellingham, Garrett, G Knight, Rawlins, A Rowe, B Rowe, Turner.
