Lyme Regis Regatta forms part of the Jurassic League and a lot of points are up for grabs in the last event of the season for points scoring.
Marcus Dixon, club chairman, said: “We are delighted to be able to run our regatta.
“The weather is looking glorious for the day and we have attracted some of the best clubs for a great days racing.
“A few rivalries will be fought over, particularly against Bridport, of course, and the Super-Vets of Appledore.”
Heather Prior, regatta organiser, added: “A lot of work has gone into this event and we are pleased to have such a great turnout and a chance for everyone who wants to race to experience a packed field.”
The races feature men’s and women’s masters for over 60s, men’s and women’s super-vets for over-50s, men’s and women’s veterans for over-40s, open age men’s and women’s A, B and C, the Mixed Open and masters teams plus under-16 youth rowing.
Spectators will be able to see the whole course laid south of the Cobb Wall and the finish line will easily be visible on the day.
Elsewhere, Lyme Regis Gig Club teams flooded the podium at Torridge in an age-rated regatta.
Torridge hosted seven clubs for their annual regatta, featuring races for the veterans (over 40s), super-vets (over-50s) and the new masters class for over-60s.
Action started with the ladies’ veterans race and managed to make up some places around the course finishing second to Boscastle. Lyme’s men’s veterans’ team also came second in their race, this time to Bude.
In the super-veterans races, Lyme ladies held off competition from hosts Torridge to finish second, behind Boscastle again.
However, Lyme men’s super-vets team is one of the strongest in the country and this was evident in an outstanding race from start to finish with a comfortable 25-length win ahead of Bude.
Next up came the masters, featuring ladies, men’s and mixed teams.
In a very close race, the ladies just finished second behind Torridge in what turned out to be the closest race of the day with less than two feet separating the boats.
In the men’s masters, Lyme fielded two teams and again had a comfortable lead from the off before winning way ahead of Barnstable, with Lyme’s second crew in fifth.
This just left the mixed masters race, where crews were made up of two veterans, two super-vets and two masters.
Lyme lead from the start to finish with a comfortable lead, which mean Lyme boats had finished first or second across all seven races to win the overall honours.
Toby Newson, Lyme men’s captain, said: “It (was) a great day for our teams. It is really good that our training through the year has given strength across all our teams with still a few regattas left in the season.
“We look forward to hosting many of these teams for a full programme of races at our regatta this coming Saturday.”
Lyme’s regatta kicks off at 9.30am and the club will also be competing most weekends in regattas across the South West ahead of the World Championships on the Isles of Scilly in May.
