LYME REGIS 3

TIPTON ST JOHN 1

LYME Regis progressed to the East Devon Senior Cup second round with a 3-1 victory over Tipton St John at Davey Fort.

With Tipton plying their trade two divisions below the Seasiders, Julien Simier’s men were heavy favourites going into the tie.

And Lyme had early joy when Fred Parsons swept home after a flowing team move.

Tipton jolted Lyme with an equaliser midway through the half as Kyle Bassett stole in to punish an unaware home defence.

Lyme saw Joe Bond miss two chances before half-time but Parsons connected with the striker twice early in the second half, Bond scoring a quick double.

Lyme’s victory has set up a mouthwatering clash with Lapford, but first Simier’s men must negotiate a Devon & Exeter League Premier Division meeting with Ottery St Mary Seconds at Davey Fort on Saturday (2.15pm).

Speaking ahead of facing the Otters, who sit bottom of the table without a win from 12 games, Simier made no bold predictions.

He said: “We can’t just think because of what we did the week before that it’s going to happen again.

“If you put the effort in, the merit’s there and you get what you get. I don’t expect Ottery to just arrive, they will fight, work hard, so we need to go and get it. They’re not going to give it to us.”

Lyme’s squad is unchanged from the Tipton game.
