LYME REGIS 1

THORVERTON 4

LYME Regis conceded three goals in the final two minutes as Thorverton claimed a dramatic 4-1 win at Davey Fort in Joma Devon & Exeter League Premier Division action.

Thorverton are flying high in third place and could claim top spot should they win their game in hand on leaders Beer Albion.

But for a large portion of this game, Lyme Regis had the visitors where they wanted them as they sought to avenge a late 4-3 loss in the reverse fixture.

Rikki Sargent scored with his second cross-shot in two games to put Lyme ahead on 30 minutes.

Mark Bailey, Brad Rowe and Ben Turner all had chances to extend the Seasiders’ lead, while Chris Higgs was in fine form to preserve Lyme’s advantage at the other end.

However, Thorverton began their comeback with an equaliser from Mark Broome.

As Lyme’s energy levels in defence began to wane, Thorverton staged a stunning late bid to capture all three points.

Ben Stevens scored a free header from a corner in the 88th minute before the fresh legs of sub Kieran Smith earned another two goals in rapid time.

Post-match, Lyme boss Julien Simier said: “They came back second half quite strong.

“We struggled with them physically, literally to just stop the crosses coming.

“Seconds half we were submerged by crosses. They managed to score which put their heads up and our down.

“Then they scored three goals from nowhere in the last two minutes of the game. It was quite frustrating.”

Lyme Regis travel to the University of Exeter Seconds on Saturday (2.15pm). Goalkeeper Chris Higgs (thigh) is doubtful, along with Gary Knight.

Lyme: Higgs, R Sargent, J Sargent, Knight (Bond 59), Larcombe, Garrett, Fellingham, Turner, Brimicombe, B Rowe (Kilcoyne 75), Bailey.
