CREWKERNE 2 LYME REGIS 2
THE Seasiders came from behind twice to earn a point at Henhayes with Aaron Cleal and Ben Whittington getting the all-important goals for the visitors.
Lyme boss Tim Edwards felt a draw was a fair result in the end and he was happy with his side’s display against the early season pacesetters in the Perry Street League Premier Division.
Both teams enjoyed spells on top in each half and it was the hosts who took the lead on 15 minutes only for Cleal to equalise with a neat finish.
Some sloppy defending led to Crewkerne regaining the initiative after the break but it didn’t take long for Whittington to level with a volley.
“They had won their first two games and have got a strong and experienced side so I can’t complain with a point,” said Edwards.
“We were overrun for the first 25 minutes but showed good character to weather the storm.
“Matthew Preece came on but had to go off before the end with a recurrence of his knee injury and Dave Matthews was outstanding in defence, winning everything in the air.”
Preece’s injury is set to keep him out of this Saturday’s Coronation Cup tie at home to West & Middle Chinnock (2pm), but Julien Simier is in line for a return.
“We should have a good chance against Chinnock but they were promoted last season and we’re not too sure what we are going to come up against,” added Edwards.
