LYME REGIS 3
ILMINSTER RESERVES 1
TIM Edwards was more than satisfied with his side’s performance in their season opener at Davey Fort.
The new Lyme Regis boss watched his men control the game throughout with the Ilminster being limited to very few chances.
A fine team move saw Jack Durrant open the scoring on 20 minutes with a tap-in before a couple of errors at the back gifted the visitors an equaliser.
Despite that setback though, the Seasiders remained on top and eventually ran out 3-1 winners with two more goals in the second half.
Lee Cleal regained the lead on 65 minutes before Sam Jones completed the scoring with a fine strike from 20 yards with 10 minutes remaining.
Edwards said: “Being our first game of the season, I thought it was a good all-round performance and in the end it was fairly comfortable.
“We limited them to the odd long-ball attack and controlled the game very well.
“We also scored some good goals so it was a very pleasing way to start.”
Next up for Lyme on Saturday is a tough trip to early pacesetters Crewkerne Town, who currently top of the Perry Street Premier Division following back-to-back victories over Winsham and Coombe Reserves.
Edwards added: “Crewkerne are one of the favourites to be there or thereabouts at the end of the season and it is a difficult place to go, so we can expect a very tough encounter.”
