DORCHESTER SECONDS 152-3 (19pts) beat Beaminster 151-9 (5pts) by seven wickets SIMON Joslin believes it is only a matter of time before Beaminster claim their first win of the season in Dorset League Division Two.

The Dorchester co-captain, who top scored with 70 in Saturday’s seven-wicket victory at the Rec, was very impressed with the West Dorset outfit and is adamant they will begin climbing the table soon if they continue to show the same desire.

Joslin told Echosport: “We won comfortably in the end but I thought they bowled and batted well and I have no doubts that their first win will come sooner rather than later.

“It was important that we were not complacent against them and I thought the lads were superb in what was a great team performance.

“I have played for this club for almost 25 years now and I have never known it to be as vibrant as it is now.

“We have so many youngsters coming through and knocking on the door, which is magnificent, and the only problem we really have is keeping them all happy.”

Ian Legg also scored 45 for the county town before Quenton Miller (12) knocked off the winning runs in the 36th over.

Prior to that, Miller had picked up 3-31 with the ball alongside Steve Budd (2-19), J Legg (2-12) and Krish Subramanian (1-43).

Beaminster skipper Ross Baker, who scored 41 with the willow, said: “We won the toss and elected to bat and both our openers struggled against some tight bowling and solid fielding.

“Nick David (13) was out trying to pull, quickly followed by Chris Park (6), who was caught behind.

“We then lost Simon Jones (5) to a wonderful reaction catch and that left us in trouble on 28-3 off 15 overs.

“After the new bowlers finished their excellent spells, Colin Lloyd (41) and Will Everitt (22) staged a recovery.

“However a mix-up then resulted in Will being run out just as he was starting to dominate.

“Colin and I then put on 60 but in the end we were only able to reach 151-9 off our 45 overs.

“We then removed Colin Edney (0) at the start of their reply but Dorchester played sensibly and put on 96 for the second wicket.

“However, the main difference between the sides was in the field where we dropped a number of catches and made too many mistakes.

“Hacon Edgley (2-24) was the pick of our bowlers, picking up two wickets, but unfortunately it wasn't enough as Dorchester won comfortably in the 36th over.”
