HALBERTON & SAMPFORD PEVERELL (4pts) 148 lost to UPLYME & LYME REGIS (20pts) 152-4 by 6 wickets
UPLYME & Lyme Regis breezed to a comfortable six-wicket win at home to Halberton & Sampford Peverell to ensure a mid-table finish in Devon League D Division.
Their victory could have been even more emphatic had it not been for visiting skipper Richard Durrant who, batting at number 10, scored 58 not out to save his side’s blushes after they were reduced to 70-8.
Batting first, Halberton got off to a shaky start and never fully recovered following the dismissal of opener Andy Blake, caught by captain Steve Batey off Neil Price for five.
Adam Caddy was almost unplayable and his 4-20 off nine overs included the wickets of Dan Coles (21), John Chilcott and Kevin Fever, both for ducks, and Jo Parkinson (5).
But up stepped Durrant to play a superb rearguard innings which helped take his side’s score to 148 – the last two partnerships put on 78.
Jack Lamb-Wilson (2-25), Price (2-24) and Paddy Barraclough (2-20) all chipped in with wickets.
In reply, Uplyme openers Jed Whittington (45) and Alex Taylor (24) put on 58 and although Whittington and Mark Bailey went with the score on 78, Caddy (26), Batey (38no) and Ben Whittington (8no) guided the hosts home.
In the Second XI League D Division East, Uplyme lost by six wickets at Axminster Seconds to end the season in third place.
M Enticotte top-scored with an unbeaten 46 in Axminster’s 204-6 while wickets fell at regular intervals in the Uplyme reply.
Several players including E Clarke (19) and D Norman (20) made starts but figures of 5-25 from D Fuzzard and 4-8 from G Larcombe saw Uplyme finish 44 runs short.
