BRIDPORT RESERVES 1 WEYMOUTH RESERVES 2
INCONSISTENCY is proving Bridport’s downfall at the moment in the eyes of manager Robin Townsend.
The Bees have now won and lost two games in the Bespoke Teamwear Dorset Premier League, the latest setback coming at home to Weymouth Reserves on Tuesday night.
Townsend’s side took a 1-0 lead into the break but then saw the visitors score twice in the second-half to claim all three points.
Bridport went into the fixture on the back of a thrilling 4-3 win over Hamworthy Recreation last Saturday and Townsend was expecting more of the same from his men.
“We were cock-a-hoop after Saturday and confidence was never an issue,” he said. “But we were poor and probably played 20 per cent below our best.
“I went with the team that finished the previous game as I thought they deserved another chance, but in hindsight I probably should have started with my strongest XI.
“We led 1-0 at half-time through Ashley Clarke but were dire in the first 20 minutes of the second-half and were caught flat-footed when they equalised.
“The lads thought their second goal was offside but we should have stopped the ball at source.
“We hit the post and had some other good chances in the last 15 minutes though we probably didn’t deserve anything from the match.”
Bridport Reserves host Swanage Town & Herston this Saturday (3pm).
Bees: B Fleet, Day (King 80), A Clarke, Lock, Jones (Scovell 70), H Fleet, Cummings, Staines (Steele 75), Stordy, B Clarke, Gale.
