Uplyme rocked FENITON 248-8 (20pts) beat UPLYME & LYME REGIS 114-9 (5pts) by 134 runs

UPLYME & LYME REGIS SECONDS 97 (15pts) beat FENITON SECONDS 81 (5pts) by 16 runs

UPLYME & Lyme Regis suffered a shock defeat at struggling Feniton in their latest outing in the Devon League D Division.

Not only was the final outcome a surprise but the manner of the reverse was also astonishing with the hosts coming out on top by a comfortable margin of 134 runs.

B Cann (44) and A Pullin (61) put on 105 for the opening wicket and from there Feniton never relinquished control.

Mark Brimicombe (3-53) did his best to peg the home side back but further contributions from Mark Kingdom (28) and J Cann (39) ensured Uplyme faced a difficult target of 249 for victory in reply.

Openers Mark Batey (7) and Rob Thom (3) both fell early and that really set the tone for the rest of the visitors’ innings, which saw little resistance as Kingdom (5-40) and J Pyle (3-28) turned the screw with the ball.

Jed Whittington (21), Ashley Caddy (20) and P Barraclough (18) all showed some fight but in the end the Seasiders were restricted to 114-9.

Uplyme Seconds also struggled with the bat in their home clash against basement boys Feniton Seconds in D Division East.

Rodney Holmes (20) and Wallace Blackmore (28) were the top scorers in a disappointing total of 97 but somehow the hosts managed to defend it by bowling their opponents out for 81.

Daley Holmes (5-19) and Ali Rattenbury (3-20) proved to be the match winners for Uplyme who remain in the hunt towards the top end of the table.

n This Saturday sees Uplyme face another double header against Countess Wear with the first team at home and the seconds away.

* Broadwindsor travelled to bottom-placed Compton Dundon and earned a victory that sees them needing only a handful of points to clinch the Readers Mid-Wessex Division One League title. Batting first the home side amassed a very competitive 175-8 from their 40 overs.

The wickets were shared around with Louis Kraukamp (2-14) Ade Phillips (2-35) and Jack Walklett (2-40) doing the most damage.

The reply got off to a reasonably sound start with openers Kraukamp (33) and Park (27) sharing another 50-run partnership before both being dismissed.

The villagers were always well ahead of the run-rate with Steve Phillips (27) and Ross Baker (29no) batting very sensibly to see the champions-in-waiting home with six overs to spare.
