THE girls at Sir John Colfox School in Bridport are continuing to raise the bar in athletics.
The junior team has qualified for round two of the English Schools Cup after an impressive display at Millfield School in Street where the inter girls also ranked 24th in the country in the South West Regional A final.
The English Schools Cup is the largest athletics competition in Europe and this year 425 schools entered teams into the competition with Colfox ending round one ranked 82nd in the country and 14th in SW England.
Colfox spokesman Andy David said: “This is a fantastic achievement, especially when you consider this was the first athletics event for many of the team and most have only been doing their event for four weeks.
“Standout performance of the day came from Lucie Fry who achieved 18 points in the hurdles and a whopping 24pts in the discus. As a result of finishing 14th in the South West of England the girls have now qualified for round two at Bournemouth.”
David went on to add: “The inter girls also exceeded all expectations by qualifying for the South West Regional A final at Millfield for the first time.
“They achieved their highest points score ever and finished up with the seventh highest team total in the South West of England.
“To put this in perspective, 395 schools across the country entered an inter girls team and our girls ranked 24th in the country.”
