AT THE recent Annual General Meeting for Somerset Amateur Swimming Club, which was hosted this year by Chard Swimming Club, Steph Hallam won the Young Volunteer of the Year award.
Hallam, 18, has been a swimmer with the club for several years and has taken lifeguarding and teaching qualifications which have enabled her to assist on the coaching side on a regular basis.
As well as taking GCSEs and currently A-levels at the Woodroffe School in Lyme Regis, she has found time to help with the club’s publicity by writing regular news reports and taking publicity photographs.
Hallam was one of 11 students nominated for this year’s Somerset ASA Young Volunteer of the Year award, and was shortlisted to attend the AGM, where the club were delighted to hear she won the overall prize.
Hallam is aiming to go on to the University of Hertfordshire in September to study English, but hopes to return to the club to help with coaching in the holidays.
