DAVID Langridge came out on top in the latest men’s competition – an individual stableford.

The top three scores in all divisions were very close but it was Langridge, of Division Three, who came in with the top score of 38 points.

Runner-up was Steve Edgar from the same tier with 37 points.

RESULTS Division One: 1 Mike Chivers (11) 36 points, 2 (on countback) Gavin Gay (8) 34, 3 (ocb) Graham Blunden (9) 34.

Division Two: 1 (ocb) Nigel Challis (19) 36, 2 Richard Parry (18) 36, 3 Steve Cleal (14) 35.

Division Three: 1 David Langridge (23) 38, 2 Steve Cleal (28) 37, 3 (ocb) Tony Edwards (28) 35.

l JUST 10 players turned out for the June Midweek Medal and the winner with the only sub 70 nett score was Mike Franklin with 69.

Runner-up was Angus Nicoll with 70 while in third spot, after countback, was Brian Walsh with 72.

Steve Cleal carded a two on the fourth and another on the sixth.

l SUNDAY’S competition was the June Monthly Medal and Alliss Merlo Qualifier.

There were 71 starters for this competition but 17 of these were N/Rs possibly due to the windy conditions.

Kevin Jones topped Division One with a score of 69 but outright winner on the day was the second tier’s Nigel Challis with 68.

Division Two: Nigel Challis 87-19-68 (Alliss Merlo), 2 George Brown 84-14-70, 3 (ocb) Richard Fox 90-18-72.

Division Three: 1 Andrew Reichter 94-22-72, 2 (ocb) Derek Griggs 95-21-74, 3 (ocb) David Langridge 96-22-74.

l THERE was a big improvement in the weather for the veterans’ Thursday competition, which was a single division self-entry stableford and this was reflected in some high scoring, resulting in a couple of hefty handicap reductions.

Had I been Dave Cole coming in with 43 points I would have thought there was a fair chance I was going to be the winner but Glyn Peach went bananas. He came in with a big grin on his face and a massive total of 45 points.

It was also a good result for Keith Delves, who after a long lay-off through illness came in third with 40 points. RESULTS 1 Glyn Peach (28) 45 points, 2 Dave Cole (26) 43, 3 Keith Delves (27) 40, 4 Dougie Howells (16) 38, 5 Brian Osborne (19) 37, 6 Tony Burwood (20) 36. Peach had his handicap cut by four shots, Cole by three and Delves by one.

The home match versus Yeovil was halved 3-3. l RUTH Donovan carded the top sore of 33 points at the Bank Holiday Stableford.

The men’s winner, one point behind, was Mike Thompson (11) with 32 points. Unfortunately the juniors seemed to have been put off by the weather and none entered.

Roy Gill was the only player to card a two.

l ‘NE’RE cast a clout ‘till May be out’, some of us did and lived to rue the day, writes Lyn Hargrave.

It was sunny but chilly with a swirling breeze when the ladies played the Ping 4BBB Qualifier.

Twenty-three pairs took part with some very good results. The two top scores will, hopefully, go forward to compete in the regional finals later in the year.

RESULTS Winners: Carole Brown & Nicky Stone 42pts Runners-up: Shirley Andrews & Di Edwards 41pts.

l THE duo of Nicky Stone and Carole Brown lost to Sherborne playing off scratch for the Humphrey’s Bowl but later in the week the Inter Club team had a cracking win against Parkstone, 5½-1½ - Stone shooting a glorious eagle on the fifth with a wonderful drive followed by an unbelievable five-iron to the green.
