ADRIAN Scadding is “over the moon” after Bridport received the green light to return to the Toolstation Western League Premier Division next season.

The Bees’ chairman, who has been at the helm for six years, received confirmation last Friday morning and was quick to praise the hard work of boss Trevor Senior and his players for such a tremendous campaign.

Bridport finished third in Division One, four points adrift of runners-up Oldland Abbotonians, who have been denied promotion after their Castle Road ground failed to meet the required standards.

The decision to promote the St Mary’s Field outfit instead was taken late last Thursday night at a league committee meeting and Scadding believes it was the correct outcome.

He said: “In truth, the decision had to go our way but sometimes you never know with these things and when I received the email confirming promotion it was almost like having a baby.

“I am absolutely over the moon and it is a credit to everyone at the club, particularly Trevor and the players.”

Scadding also believes the club will have no problems settling back into the Premier Division and reckons promotion back to the top-flight can lead to a permanent stay.

He added: “We will more than compete; I have no doubts about that. You only have to look at the results we have had against higher league sides recently to see how we raise our game against the bigger teams.

“The club is a credit to the town. We have a great pitch, the support has been great this year and the attitude and commitment from the squad has been spot on.

“I know the lads are already relishing the new challenges that lie ahead.”
