Uplyme hit double figures for the second time this season as they swamped higher league opposition Seaton Town 10-1 to reach the next stage of the Devon Senior Cup.

The Swallows, who play in Division Four of the Devon and Exeter League, were always in command against their Division Two opponents who have not won all season.

Leading scorer Jamie Gunstone opened the scoring and Uplyme, taking full advantage of roll-on-roll-off substitutions, were soon 2-0 ahead when Josh Frewin netted from the penalty spot after he had been brought down in the box.

Daley Holmes followed up with another spot kick before great strikes from Fin Mclean and Ethan Matthews made up 5-0 to the Swallows at the break.

The visitors’ non-stop attacking continued in the second half. Frewin made it 6-0 and, after Seaton had scored a consolation goal, Uplyme powered on to reach double figures with further efforts from Frewin (2), Gunstone (2) and Marcus Symonds.

There was even time for a cameo appearance by Uplyme manager Steve Gillan although he was forced to admit, “I ran through one-on-one with the goalkeeper but then bundled the ball weakly straight into his arms.”

“It was an all-round strong performance from us who are trying to bounce back after a tough start to the season,” added Gillan.
