Uplyme pulled off the result of the day in Division Four of the Devon and Exeter League when they triumphed over previously unbeaten section leaders Morchard Bishop.

The Swallows, only able to travel with twelve men and without their regular goalkeeper, were 4-2 down at one stage but stormed back in the second half to secure three points with a 5-4 win.

Uplyme played into a strong wind in the first period and, despite the home side scoring four times, they replied with goals from Josh Frewin and Marcus Symonds and these were to prove invaluable later on.

After a reset at the break, Uplyme came out firing and turned the game on its head with a match winning hat-trick from leading scorer Jamie Gunstone.

The home side pushed for an equaliser and went route one in the last five minutes but Mike Sayers was always on hand to claim everything.

Uplyme manager Steve Gillan and his assistant Peter Blandamer were in full agreement at the final whistle. “That was definitely the best second half in our time as managers”, they told the News.

“We kept them in sight in that tough first half and then impressed our quality on them in the second. Jamie is a class finisher and we gave him the chances.”

“Where we had them beat was our bit of magic out wide with Marcus and Josh. They hurt them all game. We showed them what we can do when we have our players back together.” they added.

Striker Jamie Gunstone has now netted 29 goals to date this season across the club’s two teams and including pre-season matches.

On Saturday (October 12) Uplyme make the short trip to Division Two Seaton Town for a game in the early stages of the Devon Senior Cup.
