NEWTON ABBOT SPURS 1

BRIDPORT 3

Bridport travelled to Newton Abbot Spurs and came back with all three points after a hard fought game in the South West Peninsula League.

The win means Chris Herbst's side are now unbeaten in four and have moved up to eighth in the table.

A first half goal from George Calverley was cancelled out by Spurs in the first half but a brace from substitute Kieran Coombs meant all three points came back to Dorset.

There was one negative from the game though with Calverley sent off for two yellow cards late one.

Calverley opened the scoring early doors for the Bees as he expertly found the back of the net with a clinical finish into the top corner.

The team continued to create opportunities, with Luke King coming close from a Riley Weedon corner, before Dan Baggs was unable to take advantage of a rebound after a shot from Weedon.

Despite Bridport’s dominance, Newton Abbot Spurs managed to equalize with a well-executed play, leaving goalkeeper Jordan Scadding with no chance.

The homes ide nearly found themselves in front after the break, despite, the Bees looking the more threatening of the two sides.

But Scadding was on hand to pull off a good save to keep the teams locked at 1-1.

Coombs then entered the fray along with a couple of other young players which proved to be decisive.

As the game entered the final ten minutes, Coombs impact was clear as he grabbed two goals to give Herbst side the win.

His first came after some good build-up play, with Harley Brook finding Weedon, who laid the ball off for Coombs to slot home.

Minutes later, Weedon was again the provider, with Coombs tucking the ball neatly in the corner to finish off the scoring.

After the game, Bees manager Chris Herbst was delighted with his team's performance and the win.

He said: "It was a massive result, we went down there with a few missing through illness and injury and in my mindset I would have taken a draw.

"The lads were fantastic and delivered and they all played their part, it was probably the best team performance of the season.

"It was very pleasing but we have to keep getting better and we have to keep going - we can't afford to drop points now."
