A rain soaked Merley Park saw Cobham Sports beat Bridport Reserves in the Dorset Premier League on Saturday.

Cobham ran out 4-0 winners on the day, their fifth clean sheet of the season but Bridport’s first half performance made Cobham work hard for their victory.

The hosts led at the interval through a Josh Buck penalty and put themselves in the driving seat early in the second half with a well taken goal from Chris Manners.

Buck put them three up on the hour and the scoring was rounded off by Dan Brown in the fourth minute of added on time.

The Bees started the better of the two sides adapting to the conditions quicker than Cobham with Harry Boulton going close in the 11th minute when his shot on the angle was deflected onto the crossbar.

The early exchanges were equal but Tadgh Case was causing problems for Bridport’s back line and he won a penalty in the 21st minute when he was upended in the box.

Buck made no mistake from the spot giving Archie Kershaw no chance in the Bridport goal.

The Bees reacted immediately from the kick off and a Boulton shot brought the best out of Jacob Deakin.

Cobham settled and began to dictate proceedings and Manners went close with an effort in the 32nd minute.

Three minutes later Aldo Bertorelli and Buck teamed up well down the right and Toop’s cross shot went tantalisingly close to the far post.

Cobham came out of the blocks quickly in the second half and they increased their lead in the 48th minute.

A poor clearance from Kershaw was controlled by Manners 25 yards out and he clipped the ball over the advanced Bees keeper to put Cobham 2-0 up.

This goal seemed to knock the stuffing out of the Bees and Buck was causing them many problems.

He clipped an early low cross into the mix in the 56th minute and it was bundled out for a corner at the far post.

Not long after Cobham claimed their third of the afternoon when a Callum Perry free kick was on target but Kershaw could only parry the ball into the feet of Buck who made no mistake netting the rebound.

Cobham were in complete control and Buck had another sharp effort saved by Kershaw in the third minute of added on time.

A minute later Buck had another effort parried but the rebound was clinically put away by Dan Brown to see round off the scoring.
