Bridport manager Chris Herbst was left 'thrilled' after his side's first win of the new season.

The Bees secured their first three points of the season courtesy of goals from Dan Baggs, Joe Charles and a brace from James Cox as they thumped Bovey Tracey 4-0 at St Mary's.

The win comes after a poor run of results which had left Herbst side adrift of league leaders Cullompton after losing their opening four games and drawing just once until the win over Bovey.

An excellent first half performance meant the Bees victory never looked in doubt and Herbst praised his team after the win.

He said: "I'm thrilled that we finally secured our first win of the season, and it was thoroughly deserved.

"The boys put in a fantastic first-half performance, playing some really good football that saw us go 3-0 up.

"We controlled the game, and it was great to see the hard work in training pay off."

Injuries to Baggs and striker Riley Weedon in the first half meant that Herbst was forced into making some early substitutions.

Despite the changes disrupting the home side's flow, the Bees manager was again pleased with how his team coped with the forced changes and saw out the match after the restart.

He added: "The second half was a bit more challenging, especially after we had to make three changes in the first half due to injuries, which disrupted our momentum.

"However, we still managed to add a fourth goal and see out the game with a 4-0 victory.

"Overall, I’m very happy with the performance, but there are still areas where we can improve, and we’ll focus on those in training."
