BOVEY TRACEY 0

Bridport claimed their first three point of the season with a convincing win over Devon side Bovey Tracey in the South West Peninsula League

Goals from Dan Baggs, Joe Charles and a brace from James Cox secured the Bees first win of the campaign as they look to kick start their season after a poor run of results.

Baggs opened the scoring in the seventh minute as he headed home a corner at the back post at St Mary's.

Bovey struggled to get out of their own half early on and within 20 minutes, Bridport would find themselves in a commanding presence and 2-0 up.

Some good pressing work from the hosts saw Chris Herbst's side win back possession with Joe Charles receiving the ball before beating three defenders to slip the ball past the Bovey keeper Luke Phillips.

Bees keeper Archie Kershaw was then called into action minutes later and preserved the home side's two goal lead thanks to his quick reactions after a Bovey forward had back heeled the ball from six yards.

Herbst side were in complete control and looked more like the team that had finished fourth last season than the one which had yet to register a win this season.

Just before the break the Bees would find themselves comfortably ahead as Cox claimed his first goal of the game.

The midfielder fired the ball from the edge of the box which found the net following a defensive error brought on by his teammates pressing.

Sol Ayunga almost made it four a minute later, but his shot went wide after it crossed Bovey Tracey’s six yard box.

The visitors hopes of a any form of comeback were soon dashed after the break as Cox grabbed his second of the afternoon.

This time the midfielder unleashed a venomous shot from the left side of the box which flew into the top right hand corner of the net.

Just after the hour mark,  Cox had another shot saved to deny him a hattrick, whilst captain Luke King saw a header cleared off of the line.

A minute later Bovey Tracey found themselves scurrying to clear their lines again as the Bees pushed for a fifth goal.

The visitors afternoon was summed up in the 76th minute when an unmarked Kai Swann fired a shot at goal which was still rising as it cleared the home cross bar.

Bridport’s Harley Brook saw his cross from the right tipped over the bar before setting up substitute Dan Sheehy who narrowly missed from close range.
