Bridport town boss Chris Herbst said that his squad is ‘as strong as ever’ as the Bees look to grab their first win of the campaign on Saturday afternoon.
The Bees will welcome Bovey Tracey to St Mary’s Field but have had a disappointing start to the season, claiming just one point in their first five games, which came in a 2-2 draw almost two weeks ago against the Cullompton Rangers.
Speaking exclusively to the Bridport and Lyme Regis News, Herbst said: “There were plenty of positives to take from the last game. For 70 minutes we played really well but we really need to keep that up for the full 90 minutes.
“A lapse in concentration is a concern but we need to sort it out and I am confident that a win is not that far away- we just need to keep control of the game first.”
When asked what message he would give to fans who are still waiting on a win this season, Herbst said: “Be patient and get behind the lads during these fixtures. The fans have seen how well we have been playing and know we are improving.”
Herbst has said he is expecting a free-flowing game on Saturday with lots of goals. James Cox is set to make a return after recovering from injury. George Calverley’s suspension has finished also making him available.
Saturday’s opposition were victorious last weekend in the FA Vase, as they saw off Liskeard Athletic 2-1 courtesy of a Neil Last brace. Since losing their first game of the season 4-0 to Newton Abbot Spurs, the side beat Bishops Lydeard by three goals to one. In all they have scored three and conceded five so far this season.
Bridport on the other hand have scored five goals and conceded 11 and sit in fourteenth place.
Speaking about the prospect of this Saturday’s opposition, Herbst said: “We’re expecting them to come at us, we know they are a good team, and that often when we play there is a bit of a goal fest and they had a strong start to the season.
“We are really looking forward to the challenge as always.”
