CULLOMPTON 2

BRIDPORT 2

Bridport were pegged back twice at Cullompton but did manage to secure their first point of the new season.

The Bees had taken a first half lead through Isaac House before the home side equalised and then re took the lead through Riley Weedon.

However, a free kick in the final five minutes found the back of the net to deny Chris Herbst's side what would have been a deserved three points.

Bridport started the match with a strong intensity and were excellent in keeping hold of the ball.

Both teams were probing early on as they looked to exploit any weak points.

The Bees created plenty of chances and came close to scoring several times in the first half.

The team's link-up play was much improved compared to previous games, and their efforts were finally rewarded in the 42nd minute when Harley Brook delivered a beautiful cross that Isaac House.

The forward finished with a volley, giving the away side a well deserved a 1-0 lead at the break.

At the start of the second half, Cullompton came out with higher intensity, putting the Bees back line under pressure.

The home side would reap the benefit from their endeavours levelling the scores in the 58th minute.

Despite being pegged back to 1-1, the Bees regained control of the game, and in the 78th minute, Weedon finished a long cross into the box, putting the away side back in the lead at 2-1.

The game remained evenly matched, but Cullompton didn’t give up and continued to press.

A defensive error led to a free kick on the edge of the box and Cullompton scored directly from it.

The draw means that the Bees end their run of four defeats on the bounce and record their first point of the season in the South West Peninsula League.

It leaves the team in 14th place in the table and nine points off early league leaders Sidmouth who sit top with the points.
