Wimborne 3rds 270/6 (8 pts) lost to Symene 271/6 (18 pts) by 4 wickets

SYMENE put last week’s disappointing defeat at Kingston Lacy behind them to win with a thrilling run-chase at Wimborne’s high-scoring Colehill ground.

The game was something of a rollercoaster as Wimborne chose to bat first and racked up an imposing 270 total, with opener Henry Boger’s boundary studded 113 having the visitors on the ropes from the outset.

No.4 Justin Perry made a run-a-ball 95 and the two put on a daunting 219 run third wicket partnership.

Rob Jones dismissed Boger and returned an excellent 3/30, with Joe Etherington (1/49) accounting for Perry.

In reply, victory soon seemed a long way off as Symene lost both openers Wes Lewis and skipper Leo Gurd cheaply.

However, travel specialist Reuben Kingston’s defiant 57, including 11 fours, yet again played the vital anchor role necessary to restore some stability with another hugely important innings.

This allowed Toby Hall to make hay at the other end with a blistering innings and the partnership added 86 priceless runs.

Once Kingston departed, Hall continued in similar vein and made 72 including a vital partnership worth 76 alongside Kieran Mulhall who finished with 50 not out as Symene pulled off a memorable win with just seven balls remaining.
