Symene 2nds 83 a.o. lost to Marnhull 3rds 85/2 by 8 wickets

SYMENE 2nds were defeated as they fell to an eight-wicket defeat at home to Marnhull 3rds.

Openers Phil Hawkins (4) and Lucas Richards (10) fell to the bowling of Darren Bealing as Symene reached 25/2 in the 13th over. A slowish pitch made expansive strokeplay difficult with Sam Hart (6) and in-form Justin Gurd (6) also unable to lift the pace.

It was left to Orran Maudsley (17) and David Hart (18) to boost the score to a more respectable total. The innings then collapsed from 62/4 in the 23rd over to 85 all out just 7 overs later. Darren Bealing finished with 3/20 and Alex Bealing with 3/24.

In reply, Symene made a valiant effort to gain an early breakthrough with the ball. Joel Stoker (0/14), Sam Hart (0/13) and Jake Hart (0/17) all strived with pace and swing but were ruthlessly punished for anything overpitched or dropped short by the experienced duo Stuart Cundy and Nick Chambers.

Brody Gunning finally removed Cundy, caught and bowled, for 32. Veteran twirler Graham Bartlett had Steven Green dropped twice by ‘keeper Phil Hawkins, before succeeding soon afterwards, caught by Maudsley at cover point. The game was over in the 18th over.
