1st XI Kingston Lacy 111/4 (20 pts) beat Symene 110 a.o. (4 pts) by 6 wickets
SYMENE slumped to a heavy defeat at promotion rivals Kingston Lacy last weekend.
Lacy won the toss and one look at the bowler-friendly conditions gave them little hesitation in inviting the visitors to bat first.
A solid Symene batting lineup, bolstered by the return of Liam Toohill making his 2024 debut, never really came to terms with the Lacy bowlers for whom John Burns returned 3/17 and James Holton 4/32.
Only middle order batters Sam Good (30) joined Toohill (26) in making noteworthy innings as Symene were bundled out prematurely for just 110.
Batting second, the Lacy batters made short work of the run chase, with both Symene’s prolific pace bowlers Robin Jones and Bradley Wilkinson absent.
An economical Sam Challis’s five over spell conceded just 12 runs and Toohill (2/14) briefly raised expectations but nobody found the momentum necessary to run through the host’s batting.
All top-5 Lacy batters registered double-digit scores to ensure the victory was secured with 17 overs to spare.
Although the result opened up an 18-point gap to the second promotion spot, with five fixtures remaining there are still plenty of points available, although Leo Gurd’s team cannot afford any more defeats or weather cancellations to stall their progress.
