SYMENE SPORTS 71-0 (22pts) beat ABBOTSBURY 66 (0pts) by 10 wickets

SYMENE Sports racked up another huge win, this time a 10-wicket destruction of neighbours Abbotsbury in County Division Three.

This was a victory that skipper Sam Good rated as ‘outstanding with every player on top form, especially in the field’.

With showery, cool weather around, Good had little hesitation in asking the visitors to bat first and once again his trusty opening pacemen Rob Jones and Bradley Wilkinson exerted immediate control over the match with devastating opening bursts to leave Abbotsbury floundering at 6-3.

Jones finished with 2-9 and Wilkinson 2-10, while the introduction of left-arm seamer Sam Challis removed the dangerous Chas Duerdoth for 12.

Challis was then indebted to a sharp diving catch behind from the agile Phil Hawkins to bag Avid Alam for a hard-hitting 19 before Jake Jobson joined in the fun to mop up the tail with 3-11. Challis finished with 3-9 as the visitors were bundled out inside 28 overs.

The Symene opening bats knocked off the target in just six overs.

Wes Lewis and Challis traded boundaries to blast away the Abbotsbury bowling in relentless fashion.

Lewis’s undefeated 38, comprised of four sixes and three fours, was matched by Challis’s 32 not out, containing four sixes and two fours, as their combined strike rate totalled 194, fractionally under two runs a ball.

Elsewhere, Symene Seconds had no Division Six West game but return to action this weekend at home to Milborne St Andrew, while the first team visit Witchampton Seconds (both 1pm).
