LYME Regis stormed to victory in the men’s County Cup quarter-finals with a 100-48 demolition of Gillingham.
Lyme men got off to a good start at home, being 31-6 up after ten ends with Lyme 17-14 down away.
At 15 ends, Lyme continued to pick up shots and surged into a 54-8 lead whilst the away side were having a much closer game at 27-25 down.
The home side at Lyme finished their 21 ends with Paul Pomeroy’s rink winning 41-2 and Barry Rattenbury’s rink winning 29-10.
At Gillingham, after 21 ends, Carl Stephens’ Lyme rink went down 22-15 and the other rink with Allan Weech won 15-14 after 19 ends with Gillingham conceding the game.
Lyme now play Greenhill in the semi-finals.
Lyme home: Paul Stoke-Faiers, Alan Nabarro, Steve Pomeroy and Paul Pomeroy; Simon Dowling, Richard Cridge, Paul Moffitt and Barry Rattenbury.
Lyme away: Rom Hunt, Trevor Allman, Terry Munro and Carl Stephens; Barry Driscoll, Steve White, John Maslen and Allan Weech.
Elsewhere, Ottery St Mary took the spoils on Lady Captain’s Day at Lyme Regis Bowls Club.
Lyme skipper Ann Allman invited teams from Bridport, Chardstock, Ottery St Mary, Seaton and Dorchester to play in a round robin format along with 21 Lyme members.
Ottery’s Emma Bradshawls, Margaret Trayhurn, Carol Keaty and Sharon Kenny lifted the Lyme Rose Bowl.
Runners-up were Helen Dowling, Judith Moffitt, Chris Pomeroy and Nola Stephens, meaning Lyme Regis players won the Lyme Plate.
Past members and members unable to play all joined in the afternoon starting with a Pimms and finishing off with a cream tea and strawberries and an enjoyable time was had by everyone.
After tea, presentations were made and Catherine from Butterflies, the charity nominated by Ann and her husband Trevor for this year.
Catherine gave an interesting talk about the work of Butterflies, a local Dorset charity which assists disabled children.
Some £300 was raised on Captain’s Day, adding to £100 generated during Lyme’s tournament week.
In men’s Championship action, Lyme lost 58-48 to Greenhill despite an 18-15 win for Rom Hunt, Alan Nabarro, Steve Pomeroy and Paul Pomeroy.
They were followed by respective 24-15 and 19-15 losses for Barry Driscoll, Trevor Allman, Tim Munro and Allan Weech plus Simon Dowling, Richard Cridge, Paul Moffitt and Barry Rattenbury.
There was also a loss for Lyme against Bridport A in men’s Division Two as all three rinks came a cropper.
Steve White, John Berry, John Enticott and John Sherring lost 24-10 while David Flett, Brian Parsons, Roger Legg and Keith Barnes were defeated 19-12.
Peter Fortnam, Mike Applegate, Mick Heneghan and John Maslen also went down 25-12.
In the Edna Paisley competition, Bridport took another win over Lyme, this time by a 34-24 scoreline.
Nola Stephens, Jan Parsons and Nicky Driscoll lost out 20-12 but there was a narrower 14-12 defeat for Pam Cridge, Tricia Boyd and Mary Haseman.
Lyme’s friendly at Honiton was rained off but the Sidmouth Jubilee event went ahead with the hosts taking the victory.
