BRIDPORT claimed their second league win of the season with a 2-0 triumph against Torrington.

In a tight opening half, the Bees’ Solomon Ayunga was the first to trouble either keeper with a shot over the bar in the 10th minute.

It wasn’t until the 27th minute that either keeper saw significant action, when Bees stopper Lee Cleal initially fumbled a shot from Dan Wilson, before recovering the ball.

Wilson was on the prowl again five minutes later when after a lung-busting run from the halfway line, he sent the ball across and wide of the home goal.

At the other end, Ayunga was setting off on long runs, where on two occasions a cross to Tom Richardson might have been a better option.

Seven minutes before the break, the visitors’ Carlo Chandler unleashed a shot which Cleal tipped over the bar to take the teams in goalless at half-time.

If the first half was ruled by the defences, the second was the complete opposite.

Torrington’s Wilson sent a free header over the bar from the corner of the six-yard box three minutes after the restart, but the Bees proceeded to put a stranglehold on the game from then on.

When Torrington conceded a needless foul on the right wing level with the edge of the 18-yard box just after the hour, there didn’t appear to be any immediate danger.

However, Riley Weedon’s free-kick was met by Tom Richardson who wheeled away gleefully having headed the ball home after 62 minutes from five yards out.

With their tails up, Chris Herbst’s side were unlucky not to double the score after Richardson’s shot on the run two minutes later was parried to safety by visiting keeper Ty Rowe.

That was only a temporary reprieve when, from a sea of players on the edge of the penalty area, with a series of flicks and close passes, a marvellous move was completed by James Cox.

He feinted past one defender, before blasting the ball, which billowed the goal net, having flown past Rowe for 2-0 to the hosts after 65 minutes.

Ayunga and Richardson might have added to the tally in the last 10 minutes of the contest while the visitors’ Chandler and Josh Parsons both saw presentable chances go over the bar.

Bees: Cleal, Daniels, Childs, King, Baggs, Wright, Weedon (Jones 78), Gape (Cox 45), Ayunga (Hereka 78), Richardson (Grace 83), Handyside (Howe 82).
