NEW Bridport signing George Calverley looked a “class act” on his return to the Bees, according to caretaker boss Shaun Annetts.
Left-back Calverley is a big part of parent club Dorchester Town’s plans going forward but, after struggling to secure first-team game time this season, went out to Shaftesbury and now Bridport on dual registration terms.
Both teams operate two divisions below the Magpies but the move to St Mary’s Field has given ex-Yeovil talent Calverley the chance to shine.
Bridport have endured a nightmare season so far, losing 25 of 26 league games but Annetts highlighted Calverley’s stand-out performance as a major positive in Saturday’s 6-0 loss to Shepton Mallet.

Speaking after Calverley’s second career appearance for Bridport, Annetts said: “He went off to Shaftesbury and had some games.
“That spell came to an end last weekend and I know him very well, so we got him on board and gave him 90 minutes.
“I have to say he was outstanding and probably our best player. He certainly looked a class act and he’ll be a good addition for as long as he becomes available.
“Obviously, Dorchester being his main club he’ll be playing for them if they require him to.
“While they don’t need him, we hope to give him some football and he’ll certainly improve on his defensive qualities, there’s no doubt.
“It’s a month and we know if Dorchester ask him to come back, we have to let him do that.
“But we’ll get him for three or four games and we’ll see where we are after that, but we’re taking it game by game.”
Annetts added: “It’s a position that we’ve had to fill in and we have been exploited there. Having a recognised left-back with the ability George has will be an improvement.
“He did have an outstanding game, albeit in defeat. He was impressive and everyone at the ground would’ve applauded what they saw.”
Dorchester’s first-choice left-back Tiago Sa injured his ankle in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Chesham United.
And Calverley was expected to be named in the Magpies’ squad for last night’s clash with Truro.
