RINGWOOD TOWN 2

BRIDPORT 0

BRIDPORT were upset 2-0 at lower-league Ringwood Town as the Bees crashed out of the FA Vase at the first qualifying round stage.

Ranked one tier above their Wessex Division One opponents, Bridport never got going and at the end of a pedestrian first half Town opened the scoring.

Josh Holford shot past the outstretched leg of full-back Malakai Stanners and had enough power on his effort to beat goalkeeper Greg Taylor in the 44th minute.

Bridport offered very little in response during the second half and Ringwood’s most nervy moment came from their own doing when a defensive header was miscued, forcing home keeper Sam Reilly into a reaction save.

And Ringwood made sure of the £550 prize money and a tie against Downton in the second qualifying round when Josh Taylor’s first-time finish gave Taylor little chance.

Post-match, Bees’ boss Rob Marquis said: “We were poor. It’s a disappointing result.

“I felt when we went 1-0 down it was one of those games that we didn’t look like we were going to score. You get that gut feeling.

“We conceded a second one and we were done then, we looked like a beaten side.

“I find it’s one step forward and then something goes the other way.”
