SHILLINGSTONE 0
DRIMPTON 2
DRIMPTON ended 2020 unbeaten after a hard-fought 2-0 win at Shillingstone in the Dorset Minor Cup second round.
Despite missing a few players, a bright start by the Greens saw Tim Hussey go through one-on-one with the home keeper, who made a good save at the striker’s feet.
In a first half of very few chances and wasted possession the score remained goalless at the break, with Drimpton making a tactical change to gain an almost immediate response.
Again the home keeper came out on top during another one-on-one, before the home side had a good chance to take the lead following a corner but shot high and wide.
Sustained Drimpton pressure in the second half was rewarded from a corner when Ryan Gay headed home from a flick-on with five minutes left.
Sealing the late win, the hard working Hussey got on the end of a pinpoint Adam Chant cross to head home for 2-0, seeing the Greens through to the next round.
Greens’ boss Andy Loudon said: “It is great to end the year unbeaten and nice to progress in a competition that we would like to do well in.”
